Project 9×70 comes to an end… WOTLK around the corner

Well, with less than half a bubble til Sparkleshiv hits 70, and he already has more than 1k in savings so the flight requirement will be met immediately, project 9×70 will come to a successful completion tonight.

And spawn the obvious question…  What now?

10×80?  Maybe eventually, but at the moment I’m not going to assume that.  I will definitely start a DeathKnight when the xpac hits, and Adelaris and likely Dornas will almost certainly hit 80 eventually… but I’m not as sure about the rest.  I’m sure I’ll play them some, and the ones with useful professions have an advantage.

In the meantime what should I do til the xpac hits.  Respecin’ everyone when the patch 3.0 hits, and trying out the new talents will fill some time.  I’m leaning towards mostly doing a bunch of dailies and building up some gold for whatever it might be needed for at 80.

We need healers that actually heal!!!

I had to laugh when I read that during a recent AB session.

You see just moments before I had this experience.

I was playing on Adelaris, currenlty resto spec’d for pvp, and I came upon a nelf Warrior at the mid-stages of an arse-whopin from a rotting corpse Warlock.  The ‘lock had apparently sacrificed his demon, and had the warrior seriously DOT’d up, and was fear and draining him to certain death.  The warrior was about at half-health when I came upon this little drama, so I set about getting the warrior back in the game, I start lighting him up with HOTs, that at least manage to keep him from bottoming out (barely, I thought I’d lost him early in the fight when he had no visible health left, but I did manage to keep him up right through the intial stage of the fight).

About the time I’d gotten him past the point of imminent extinction, but before I had him solid enough that it was guaranteed he would win the fight, a Tauren warrior shows up (and being smarter than the zombie ‘lock, he quickly figured out what was going on, and went after me).  So I proceed to use every delaying tactic in my arsenal while keeping my “teammate” fighting, I cycloned the hordie, I rooted him, I use my drums of panic, I cycloned him again, rooted him again, shift to bear and stunned him… pretty much everything I can think of to keep him off me to keep healing the warrior through his fight.  And it works the nelf warrior finally kills the ‘lock.

So what happens next, the meatshield whose life I just saves attacks the cow warrior, while I try and keep us both alive with my 1/4 mana left?  You would think so, right?  Nope the ungrateful bastage takes off for some place else, without even a thank you very much….  and I of course get pasted by the bovine.

Yeah, we need healers that actually heal, that’s why we lost!  BAH!

PVP

Ok, thus far I’ve been doing a fair job of getting in a PVP daily for Dornas and Adelaris on most days, but I really need to get more organized.   I’m assuming the dailies just rotate, but I probably need to track it for a while to do that.  So I’m going to do that at the bottom of this post.  I’ll just track for 2 weeks or so, that should make it very obvious if it’s random(ish) or just a straight sequential pattern.

I also need to take more advantage of the double honor weekends.  But of course while I need honor, tokens are likely to be a bigger issue.  I like AB and WSG in small doses, but AV has always been my favorite.  I’m not a pure pvp guy by any stretch, I like the mix of pvp and pve goals.  The one that I can’t seem to get into at all is Eye of the Storm.  It just so random feeling, as a healer I die much, much quicker in EotS for some reason, and I don’t have a clue why that is.   I usually just fallback on my AB standard of helping to defend some resource, but in AB I can usually do decently at keeping 1 or 2 dps alive, and can often help them hold a node from as many as 5 attackers.  In EotS it just doesn’t seem to work.  Not sure if it’s me, or even what the difference is.

I also need to do a little research on the blue pvp rep set for all my toons.  I expect most of mine are either honored or at least very close with HH, and CE, and LC is achievable (if I want to put in the time).  But I need to research Shanar rep (do you get that automatically with Aldor/Scryer?), and I’m fairly certain I won’t get Cavern of Time, because as far as I know it can only be gotten by running those instances, and while they are fun they are way, way out of the way being where they are located.

Anyway, back to the pattern recognition for PVP dailies:

meh, never mind, after 3 ABs in 4 days, I no longer expect a pattern.

And then there were 2…

Bockale, the shaman, hit level 70 last night, moving project 9×70 up to a current standing of 7×70.

Our two remaining adventurers Bitterale, the priest, and Sparkleshiv, the rogue, remain levels 66 and 61 respectively.

My Gorefiend (pvp) Moonkin-to-Be hit level 32 while I played during a Doomhammer outage.  I just can’t seem to get into the other server.   While the server averages 12-20 people on at a time, no one ever converses on guild chat, it’s kinda creepy feeling.

I think the next step is to go through and enumerate my current short term goals (2 more 70s obviously) but there are other things I’m working on, jewelcrafting patterns for Dornas, Exalted with the sunwell for Stoutale, pvp gear for Dornas and Adelaris… etc.

And the mage can fly…

Added a 5th toon, Gandgneaume, with a flying mount this weekend.  Of my 70’s only the Warrior, Stoutale, is currently grounded, and he’ll be getting his wings soon as well.  The warrior is currently working on his Sunwell rep to acquire one of those shiny shields they are giving out.

In other news, did the unthinkable and respec’d Adelaris the druid Resto…  have to admit, he is an effective BG healer that way.  Kind ironic that he’s going to heal battlegrounds til he has enough honor to buy some upgraded tanking gear.

PVP!

Well I just realized that I haven’t been paying attention and I need to be PVPing again.

Dornas, my battlefield medic / Shockadin, has always been intended to be mostly a PVP BG toon.  That was where he had spent most of his level 60 existance, and that was the plan for when he hit level 70… but something happened along the way.   Arenas.  All focus changed to Arenas, and I tried them and just didn’t find them to be much fun.   The problem was, it wasn’t just that the best gear was only available from Arenas,  it was worse than that, basically the gear that was available from the Battlegrounds was not even close to being worth the effort.  So I quit PVPing.

Well apparently somewhere along the way, when I wasn’t paying attention (was just mildly focused on leveling for project 9×70) they started moving the older seasons of Arena gear into the honor rewards.  Now it is worth it, but I’m a year behind.

Oh well, took Dornas into a couple of WSGs last night, and went 1 for 2, not too bad.   Need to upgrade my gear (need a healer helm first, since it’s kind of silly to be a battlefield medic wearing the headless horsemans helm).

I also need to catch up on a year+ worth of PVP changes, apparently the rules have changed in AV, and I like the change to WSG where the flag carriers become more vulnerable after a while to try and kill off the turtles (though it appears it’s still not enough, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Project 9×70 hits 6×70

Stoutale, the warrior, hit level 70 joining the druid, pally, hunter, mage and warlock.   Bockale the shaman is right behind at level 69, Bitterale the priest is at 66, and Sparkleshiv the rogue is trailing the pack at 61.

The Shattered Sun Offensive dailies have been very good to my little toon cadre, as now all toons have fast ground mounts, and 4 (Adelaris, Dornas, Strongale, and Saurogneaume) can fly.  Will keep working the dailies to get flying for the other 5 as well.

Stoutale to hit 68 tonight

Well Stoutale should hit 68 tonight, so I suppose it’s time to start researching the reasonably acquirable tanking gear for a warrior… and heck tanking builds and techniques for warriors as well.

I know my way around tanking on the bear, but the warrior hasn’t had much experience to date.

Unfortunately from what I could see in my previous scouting for this type of info the warrior community isn’t as good about sharning info and helping newbs as the Druid community. But what else have I got to do, so I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Need to update my “Meet the Ales” page…

Since Sparkleshiv (the rogue) is no longer simply a bank alt, and to include Blackale. Might try and do that this weekend.

My 9×70 project is still moving along slowly. Still currently only have the 5 70s (Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Mage, and Warlock) but the Warrior is getting reasonably close at 67.5, the Priest is back around 62, Shaman at 61, and the Rogue pulling up the rear at 46.

The newest Ale….

Blackale, the moonkin to be. I decided to at least occasionally visit the elder refugees on Gorefiend, and since this required starting a new toon, decided to do a new druid, but a OOMkin for something different. He’s currently level 24. I was being criticized for being balance spec’d and having feral gear… but honestly, at level 24 you wear whatever gear you can find, it’s not like I bought it… I wear whatever level appropriate leather gear I can get my hands on. The guy who was trying to show me the error in my ways kept telling me I should respec feral… I already have a bear, great toon, but been there done that.
