top deck: trinity eight 6-pounders with 450 range vs four 4-pounders with 350 range (triumphant has a terrible top deck)
upper deck: trinity 28 11-pounders with 560 range vs 24 9-pounders with 525 range
mid deck: trinity 28 18-pounders vs 26 18-pounders.
gundeck triumphant, 28 36-pounders vs 28 24-pounders
so... the real difference between the two... triumphant has more armor and a *huge* gundeck (spike damage would be big). trinity has a big advantage on the top and upper decks. (better overall dps)
between the two, i think i perfer the trinity.

wow... throwing the couronne MC into the mix.. and i'm almost convinced the way to go is to get one of these....
not only will you obliterate the need to grind contention with one character while having fun with another... but, from what i can see, the couronne MC has more armor, higher DR, better maneuverability and similar firepower to the 2nd rates.
the only negative other than the higher cost is having 3 decks instead of 4 on a 2nd rate. however, the 3 decks are pretty heavy, relatively speaking.

that is very tempting.
i will have to research this some more. maybe marcelle wont be sailing around in a 2nd rate after all... lol
couronne mc has bigger armor than even the triumphant, but is on par with the dps of a trinity.
one negative you didnt mention is the relatively smaller crew size. might have a problem with being boarded at only 450 crew.
