Todd, to Discido: "there are indeed subterranean levels in the castle, but I have never been there myself."

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
The Gardens could be a decent entry point, does anyone know what's at the far side?

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
Pointing ..
"Here, near K18, stairs leading up and down. Gives us options, and there is
some cover as we enter. We can send scouts both up and down, though I
seem to feel that our quarry will be below.
Now, can we get to that spot? We could use a first scroll to get into the
non-refenced courtyard. Not much cover there, but perhaps its unguarded
in favor of the barbican that would usually give access there. Well, we can
pierce the wall and peek."

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
after seeing Dagon contemplate then discard the idea of getting to the top of the wall via teleportation, rolen considers good old manual climbing. do the walls provide enough grip for him to try?

For an expert climber, the walls could be climbable.mts wrote:after seeing Dagon contemplate then discard the idea of getting to the top of the wall via teleportation, rolen considers good old manual climbing. do the walls provide enough grip for him to try?

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
If everyone is in agreement with it, Rolen tries to climb the wall and take a peek.
Athletics check for climbing: 1d20 + 6 = 11 +6 = 17
Stealth check: 1d20 + 14 = 17+14 = 31
OOC from the PHB pg 182, it seems that the DC for climbing a brick wall is a 20. so rolen apparently fails. but since it is less than 4 under, he doesn't fall. does this mean i roll again?

Fea
Fea watches quietly and fidgets impatiently while the group tries to analyze the problem and decide on a course of action. He thinks back to his last talk with Jack, and wonders if he'll ever see him again. And part of him wonders if we do encounter Jack before the end of this... who's side will Jack be on? From the strange conversation Fea had with Jack last time in this castle, it doesn't seem unlikely to think that his will may not be his own.
Pushing these dark thoughts aside Fea asks, "How long we gonna stand around? Let's do this thing." He then notices Rolen attempting to climb the wall and nods approval at there being some action at last, and adds unnecessarily, "Be careful."

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
Sealamin prepares a pass wall scroll
Should Rolen's actions draw attention it might be helpful to be able to go through the wall quickly

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
Rolen manages to go unseen by the guards on the walkway atop the wall, but he doesn't manage to climb.
This includes a few attemps by him. He feel he might be able to climb this wall, but it's tougher than he initially thought. He may try again, this time however it would take longer, require more exploring; and as a consequence if he selects to try again, I'll ask for three (3) stealth checks; if a single one fails, he's spotted. I'll let you decide what you do.

" ... no. Nice try, but the last thing we need is to be seen while we are on the outside
of this wall. Over here ..."
and I lead the group over to the part of the wall near the stairs, here

scroll here"
"If we burst the outer wall and find enemy within, Rolen, Fea, you decide
if you can kill them quietly"

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
Rolen gives up trying to climb and follows Discido to where he wants to breach the wall.
Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
when we arrive at the location Discidio has selected Sealamin waits to see if there is any obvious enemies in the vicinity
should the area appear clear Sealamin will use the first pass wall scroll

Re: Chapter 10: Saving Cauldron
There are guards that patrol the top of the wall. Only a few. The proximity of the buildinds allow you to start from relatively close to the castle wall, but you still need to be very careful. A large group such as yours is likely to get spotted.
Do you have a specific strategy in mind in trying to go unnoticed? Let me know, I'll then select appropriate skill checks or another resolution as I see fit depending on what you tell me.
