Feed The Beast

Feed The Beast

So several of us have been playing a little Feed The Beast modpack for Minecraft and I can’t express enough how much more enjoyment it’s brought back to Minecraft for me personally. I tend to play Minecraft in waves where I remember how much fun it is, play it for a month or so, and then quit playing once I’ve found myself some diamonds and everything seems kind of moot beyond that. With FTB Unleashed (the modpack that we use) there’s a hundred different types of machinery and new dimensions or biomes to explore.

They’ve just launched a new website and will be rolling out a new launcher to help you be able to pick and choose mods you wish to install and making a “private” modpack to share with your friends will be as easy as sending a mod list and configs. The launcher will do the rest.

If you’re trying to get back into the swing of Minecraft and just get bored, try grabbing the Feed The Beast launcher and giving one of the modpacks a shot. It adds tenfold more to the game than it comes with and you’ll likely run out of time to play it before you run out of things to do!

Cube World Is Out

Cubeworld Is Out

So Cube World is finally out. It’s in it’s alpha version and is available for purchase from the Picroma website that Wollay and his wife Pixxie run. If the site is down for you – try again a little bit later. Wollay likened the traffic to a DDOS attack which brought the site down to it’s knees within the first few hours. Registrations were closed shortly to help alleviate some of the strain and were reopened again shortly afterwards. It’s been up and down for me since then, so just be patient.

I haven’t tried playing it on anything but my main PC which runs the game perfectly fine maxed out (AMD 965 black edition, 8 gigs of RAM, and an AMD 6970). I’ll give it a shot on a few other computers around the house to gauge performance on lower end machines and laptops. I’m running a server and have been able to play it fine with a friend, but the server is currently limited to 4 people simultaneously although that’s surely bound to be increased later on.

For more information about the game check out, this nifty “getting started guide“, and the CubeWorld subreddit.

Starbound Preorder Now Live

Starbound Preorder

The Starbound preorder has launched and you can now pick up a copy of the game (to be released sometime soon) and get in on the beta (also to be around the corner). There are several “tiers” of backing the game – sort of like with Kickstarter. You buy a specific preorder and you can contribute a larger amount to the game for additional goodies.  The basic preorder is $15 and will net you a copy of the game and a Steam key when it launches as well as a beta invite and a copy of the soundtrack (something like 66 tracks!). There’s also a “Buy 4-Pack” option for $45 (a 25% discount) so you can be generous and gift copies to your friends. Then there’s the Silver Tier for $20 which gives the same rewards + a “donor” badge for their forums. The Gold tier for $45 which gives you all of the above and a different forum badge and you get to name an NPC (keep in mind just how many names will be in the random procedural generation). The Diamond tier gets your name in the credits for $75. The Platinum tier lets you design a hat to be used in the game for $500, the Solarium tier for $1000 lets you design a weapon, and the Impervium tier nets you a statue of yourself to be used in-game.

Starbound Preorder Levels

All in-all pretty standard Kickstarter-style stuff here. I’m going to be grabbing myself an early copy so I can get in on the Beta. If you haven’t heard much about it – I’d suggest checking out some of the Starbound dev’s Youtube videos.
