Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Released

Call of Duty MW3 has been released and all the noobs arguing over BF3/MW3 can now play their respective games. COD posted this live-action trailer on their youtube channel and website a few days ago to get everyone amped to play the game. I’m not sure how I feel about live-action trailers… Skyrim did one a few days ago that we posted about and I was meh about it. This video is good for a few chuckles and even has Jonah Hill in it. I don’t think it really makes me want to play the game as much as it makes me want to go watch Knocked Up or Get Him to the Greek. Either way it’s good for a few laughs.

So now’s your chance to go out and grab MW3 for Xbox and skip work for the next few days!

PETA Angry at BF3

PETA BF3

PETA issued a press release in Germany criticizing Battlefield 3 over “animal cruelty”. Specifically, PETA points out a singleplayer mission (mission 3) in Battlefield 3 where the player has to stab a rat, and toss it away.

That’s right… in a game involving killing hundreds upon hundreds of humans, PETA is upset that the game involves killing a single animal and states “the killing of even a virtual animal could inspire young people to do such acts in real life.”

They’re apparently ok if someone decides to come away from the game with the idea that killing another human being is ok but heaven forbid they come away thinking it’s ok to hurt a sewer rat.

Minecraft’s Release & Minecon

Minecraft Minecon

Next week marks the week of Minecon and the official release of Minecraft. This is good for me because I’ll finally have a stable server that I don’t have to update every week. Notch posted on his blog about his excitement and nervousness about Minecon and his game’s release. Here’s what he had to say:

Next week is MineCon week. That means we’ll release the full version of Minecraft (which will be called “Minecraft”, and have a version number of 1.0. The current version is “Minecraft Beta”). We’ll keep working on Minecraft for a long time after the full release, but it’s a huge milestone.

That milestone also means people might start reviewing the game. There have been a few reviews already, but I have a feeling most people are waiting for the full release.

This makes me nervous.

It does feel like the game has already proven itself. Lots of people play the game, and we receive a lot of friendly and positive emails from players. We’ve won several amazing awards, so several people in the industry seems to enjoy what we’ve done.
Now it’s just the press left.

It’s a bit weird, but gaming scores have become so big and bloated, I can’t help but feel like I would be disappointed with a score that would be a great score for something like a movie or a music album. And even if the score means relatively little compared to the players and the awards, it’s a distinct number people will use to compare the game to other games.

But what REALLY makes me nervous is the fact that I’m going to have to do at least some public speaking at MineCon. I’m fine with meeting fans and signing stuff, and even with having my picture taken, but standing on stage and trying to get a point across really terrifies me.
