Jeb Releases 1.9 Pre-release 5

Kind of getting frustrated at this point and want to see an officially released version, but I appreciate the time and effort going into this update and all the pre-release bugs that would’ve ended up in the official update. Here’s Jeb’s Twitter post about the release (with links) and I’ve made the links easier to click below along with a list a fellow redditor put together.

Notch Releasing 1.9 Preview 3 Tomorrow

Notch will hopefully be releasing 1.9 Pre 3 tomorrow according to his twitter. This is not an official update, just in keeping with his pre-release of each large patch to ensure that no major bugs make it into the final patch release. Keep an eye here for a link to the download!

Update:

Notch has released the 1.9.3 Pre 3 client and server. Grab the Server.jar or the Client.jar.

Some of the guys over on Reddit have started a changelog:

Additions:

Changes:

  • Bookshelves drop 3 books when broken now.
  • Ender pearls now work in multi-player.
  • Cooldown for mobs, which have been in “love mode”.

Bugs:

  • Shift-clicking an item in your inventory while the enchantment table interface is open causes the game to crash with a “saving chunks” screen.
  • Rolling mouse over item ID 119 crashes the client.
  • Weird lava lighting in the nether ([12] pic ).

Notch Hints at Enchanting

Notch let us know a little earlier today that he was working on enchanting in Minecraft. “Working on Item Enchantments. It costs experience points. It’s totally random. It has three tiers. What does an enchantment table look like?”

A little while later he showed us a picture of the enchanting table. “How does enchanting work in Minecraft? Well, you open a magical book and pick a random spell, not quite sure knowing what it will do. MAGIC!”

No clue as to what it will entail… unlike our potions teaser we got from Jeb the other day. Stay tuned and hopefully we’ll learn more about it in the coming days!
