Dinnerbone Adds Frames to Minecraft

Minecraft Frames

Dinnerbone has tweeted some sweet looking additions to Minecraft. Apparently he’s added a much requested feature to Minecraft: Frames to house and showcase items (a mod implementing shelves had been popular at one point). Here’s a screenshot showing frames over chests suggesting their contents, a screenshot showing maps, clocks, compasses, etc are displayable, and a more recently updated screenshot showing blocks and showing that he has added backgrounds to them to make them more easily visible. He’s since tweeted that all in-game items can be placed in them.

We’ll likely see this in some upcoming snapshots and in version 1.4

Diablo III Starter Edition

Diablo III Starter

The Diablo III Starter Edition lets you play up to level 13. You can read about all the limitations here. You can play all of Act I up to the Skeleton King, level up to level 13, no access to auction houses (real money AH or the gold AH), and you can only be matched up to other Starter Edition players in the matchmaking system.

While this is a great way to test the game to see if it’s really as good or horrible as either side makes it out to be – it’s not an alternative to dropping $50 on the game and getting to play a gimped version (ah-la free-to-play) as much as it’s like WoW and SC2’s starter trials.

To grab the starter edition, Log in to your existing Battle.net account at www.battle.net, and sign up for the Diablo III Starter Edition through the “Your Game Accounts” section.

Vanguard Joins F2P Crowd

Vanguard F2P

Vanguard: Saga of Heros has gone Free-to-Play… well kind of. Just like SWTOR’s decision, there are some features that are disabled or gimped for free accounts. Some glaring differences though is Vanguard’s decision to limit what gear/items you can have as well. “Uncommon and higher will have limited availability for Free members.” Another thing, I’m unaware of the in-game help given by game masters (if they have them), but free accounts won’t be able to receive in-game help either except for real money transaction issues.

Will it work? I don’t know anyone who still plays this, but apparently some people do.
