Starbound Updates

Starbound Updates

For those of you who have been following the development and progress of Starbound closely, this may not be completely new news for you, but for those who may have forgotten about the game or have been distracted by some of the other awesome games that have come out recently, there have been a few updates – unfortunately still no release date though.

Starbound Character Creator

The Starbound character creator has had some updates and now offers a wide variety of color and style combinations so you can go ahead and pick yourself a look you like and also see what some of the styles other races have to offer. (must be registered on forums to use)

Starbound Navigation

They’ve given out some previews of what navigating through the universe of Starbound will be like. You can preview planets to see if there are any valuable resources there, if the surface can be walked on or not, and how far away it is (make sure you have enough fuel to get there!) It looks like a pretty cool system and you can read more about it here.

Starbound Newsletter

And last but not least is the Starbound Newsletter. This will primarily be a way for you to stay informed on the happenings in Starbound’s development and most importantly – the release date! You’ll be the first of your friends to know when they give a date that they will be releasing Starbound. Check it out and sign up!

Project Blackstone

Project Blackstone

All of you Blizzard fans that have been patiently awaiting the Starcraft 2 expansion Heart of the Swarm will be excited to find these little teasers that Blizzard has “accidentally” released. It’s called Project Blackstone and seems to be an alternate reality game centered around Starcraft 2’s HoTS similar in style to Halo 2’s I Love Bees and A.I’s The Beast.

Basically it’s just a bit of viral marketing and hype that you can follow along with as it unfolds. Some nimble-minded individuals peaked at the source code of the page and discovered a password for the site that was embedded in it: Y7_$0>0k_3<$m

So poke around and get excited for some HoTS which will be arriving March 12th.

Ouya On Sale in June

Ouya at Best Buy

The Ouya that everyone’s been pretty excited about will actually be getting the brick-and-mortar treatment and will be available through Best Buy in June for only $99. An extra gamepad will run you another $49 from the store and $30+$10 shipping if you get it directly from the Ouya website. While it won’t be killing any of the major consoles already available at places like Best Buy, it makes a pretty nifty $100 toy that you can run emulators, watch youtube, play Android-based games, browse the internet on, etc. A few big name indie devs (Notch of Minecraft fame for starters) have already pledged to give the Ouya some love. If you’re tech-savy and already have a HTPC hooked up to your big screen, it’s probably not going to be on your shopping list. If you’re considering something like the Apple TV and don’t see yourself renting a bunch of movies from the Apple store and want to use it primarily for Netflix and Youtube, then this might be right up your alley.
