I haven’t done a mod or texture pack spotlight for Minecraft yet and thought I’d start with a new texture pack that I recently found that I really really like. I’ve always been a fan of “smooth” or “simple” texture packs. I love the ultra realistic packs but sometimes they just take away from the artistic-blocky feel of the game. Most smooth packs are also smaller in resolution… either the default 16x or a 32x or sometimes a 64x. The ultra-realistic ones are typically 128x or 256x just so they can fit more detail on each block surface. Read on for more screenshots of the texture pack as well as download links.

That’s not always true and Sphax shows us that you can have an HD 128x pack and it not be ultra realistic. It comes in all flavors from 16x to 256x. I chose the 128x because it was the original and is the priority when it comes to updates and trying out new textures, etc. It’s vector-based so the edges are always going to be smooth and crisp. This doesn’t mean that everything appears flat though… there are definitely some creative uses of shading and shapes in some of the block textures.
The texture pack also supports a good number of mods for the game that would add new items or blocks that would be unsupported by other texture packs. These include the Aether mod, Clay Soldiers, Better than Wolves mod, and even some GLSL shaders.
The texture pack includes several new skins for just about every single mob. In the screenshot above you can see the Zombie skin and the Skeleton skin up close.
It’s a very comic-book-like texture pack with crisp lines, not a lot of noise, and patterns that tile nicely even for large walls, flat surfaces and big projects that use cobbstone or smooth stone.
It even has custom artwork like the handle-ring pictured in the screenshot above that’s partially transparent (more of a wall-decal), some colored banners, and other paintings of creepers, ghasts and more.
There was one small gripe with the texture pack. The gravel pattern was a tad large and almost resembled a more pronounced cobblestone. I shrunk it down to 50% of it’s original size and tiled it to make it have a smaller pattern on it. I mentioned this to the author in his thread on the official Minecraft forums and he said it was a great idea and has since included it in the official version.
I have discontinued my modified version of this texture pack as the author has included most of the changes I made in his texture pack. I still would like to see some readability changes for the texture pack, but I don’t like having to keep it updated constantly with each patch that Minecraft releases.
Download Original From Author:
If you’d like to download the original unmodified versions of the texture pack straight from the author get it here along with other sized versions (16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512).
That’s a sweet texture pack! I so want that but I can’t download that. 🙁
Bradly, are you having trouble downloading it from the author? Here’s his Minecraft Forums thread:
