Minecon and Minecraft’s Release

Minecon

Minecon is going strong today with loads of costumes, free goodies, and hot chicks dressed up as wolves. Someone even killed the Dragon before we could get in and scoop up all the XP… dang! Jeb brought his own wolf along and tweeted earlier that Minecraft will officially be released during Notch’s keynote speech. Mollstam isn’t too happy, though because the login servers seem to have “gone sad“. Hopefully he’ll get it fixed in the next hour or so before the game’s official.

We plan on having our JOB server up and running soon (as in, this week) so go grab a copy of the game and join us on the forums and in-game!

PS you get the game here.

Anno 2070 Available Today

Anno 2070

Available today is the latest game in the Anno series, Anno 2070. There’s been a few games in the series starting with Anno 1602, Anno 1503, Anno 1701, and Anno 1404.  It’s a city-building RTS game set in the year 2070 (duh). Global warming has melted the Arctic ice cap, which has raised the global sea level so high that what used to be mountains are all that remains of land. It easily has the most comprehensive economic management system seen yet in the Anno series. For the longest time, the Anno games have been the best of the best in their genre, and Anno 2070 looks promising enough to carry on that tradition.

The game has two factions: The Eden Initiative (referred to as the ‘Ecos’) and The Global Trust (referred to as the ‘Tycoons’). Ecos are environmental and build sustainable cities but are inefficient and slow to expand. Tycoons are industrious and expand quickly but have problems with pollution and dwindling resources.

It seems like a fun game especially if you’re into the RTS type games. It’s available on Steam today for $49.99.

Skyrim Ships 7 Million Copies

Skyrim Ships 7 Million

Zenimax has announced that Skyrim has shipped 7 million copies in the first week. They also mentioned that it is expected to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales.

With tens of thousands of fans lining up at retail outlets at midnight on 11/11/11 to purchase the game, Skyrim continued to record strong sales following its release. More than 50% of launch units were sold in the first 48 hours and Bethesda Softworks has been receiving large reorders from major retailers in the North America, and across Europe and Australia.

Online activity has been notable, with Steam reporting that in the first 24 hours of its release, Skyrim set a record with over 280,000 concurrent players, far outdistancing all other titles.

We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game.

Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

Todd Howard was pleased with the news and said that it’s their most ambitious project ever.

Without a doubt, this has been our most ambitious project ever,” said Todd Howard, Game Director on Skyrim. “After over three years of development, we’re finally excited to get it into everyone’s hands.”
