GTA V

GTA V has been released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 – and if previous installments of the Grand Theft Auto series are anything to go by, we should be expecting a PC release sometime around 6-8 months from now.

One major difference between the newest installment and previous GTA games is that you don’t take the role of a single protagonist – rather you can switch between three main characters. Each one has their own back story and different missions and quests. While interacting with the world of Los Santos and the greater San Andreas, the player may switch between them at will, by means of a directional compass on the HUD. Franklin corresponds to the north point, Michael to the west, and Trevor to the east. During missions, the game may switch the player’s character automatically as necessary in order to complete certain objectives.

The game is also set in modern day as opposed to the 80’s of Vice City or the 90’s of San Andreas. The music choice in game is more modern as well. VC had an easy 80’s New Wave theme to draw on, SA had the 90’s punk and hip hop to choose from, and GTA V has done a good job of including current trends of dubstep, indie-rock, and others. It’s also the first game in the GTA series to make use of an original score.

Have you picked up the game? What are your favorite parts? The new Stock Market system? New vehicle customization?
